the precariously balancing bookshelf

Here’s a product that seems more novel than functional. But there is certainly something intriguing about having to interact with your furniture and Yanko Design’s Balancing Bookshelf is a model of that. It works just as it seems. You get it balanced – there seems to be a couple of ways you can do this so that it’s not necessarily symmetrical – and you’re fine until you want to remove something. In that case you may have to do a little rearranging to get a book down. Although the pictures below do indicate that it takes a good bit of weight differential to get this shelf to move substantially. And there are guards to keep it from toppling completely. In the end, this may end up as nothing more than a joyride for my cats.
