With some 6,700 people per square kilometer, Hong Kong is one of the worlds most densely populated areas. And the architecture has responded with dizzying and mesmerizing results. German-born photographer, Michael Wolf has captured this brilliantly with his series called Architecture of Density.

The layering of pattern and detail occurring from the macro to micro: building – windows – individual unit is amplified here because of the scale, which we can only infer because we don’t know the full extent of the structure. The biggest irregularities in the orderly nature of these designs are the trappings of the people, whose laundry and hanging plants pepper the building and create an ever-changing level of detail.

The sheer scale here is simply amazing and borders on the surreal. One thing that surprises me is the multi-coloring of some of the buildings. More images.
