If there’s no doubting we’re in the midst of a truly “greening” revolution of our world, then there’s also no doubting that there are many bandwagon-jumping manufacturers who are slightly less than sincere about their products eco-friendliness. For us consumers, “greenwashing” can be hard to detect but as the product landscape continues to evolve, committed companies are relying on honesty and transparency rather than the typical rhetoric. Patagonia is one such company and their newest project, Footprint Chronicles, uses maps, photo’s, and interviews to document selected products journey from design to manufacturing to final delivery. If only everyone would follow their lead.

If you’re someone who buys eco-friendly products, what are some of the ways you research companies? What most affects your decision to buy or not to buy?

This is story telling in a new medium - the internet. Penguin’s new digital writing project uses the interactivity of the internet to enhance the readers experience. For now 6 stories will be slowly released - and then there is a 7th hidden somewhere in the interwebs. Check it out.

This has been around for at least a year now, but it’s new to me and I love it - and so will fans of the short film Powers of 10. Universcale is a flash-based interactive website that allows you to zoom to the scale of an atom or go light years away to observe the galaxy, all the while giving you images of recognizable animals or structures for context. Educational and lots of fun, you can click on items for more information.

The Ones We Love is a project highlighting young and talented photographers from around the world. Each artist contributes six photographs of the person(s) who is most important to them, taken outdoors in a natural setting. The goal of the website is to portray the people who are loved, cherished, and inspirational to these artists, and also showcase the differences and similarities in the photographs each of them took within the same guidelines.
I love the idea of this site. The photographers are mostly born in the late 80’s with a few 70’s in there. I love the passion that comes out when portraying the one you love. All you have to do is send in your set for consideration for the site.

Have a good vocabulary? Great. You can help combat world hunger. I just ran across FREE RICE, a website that tests your vocabulary and rewards others with your knowledge. Each word gives 20 rice grains to those in need. Plus I just learned that dysphagia means trouble swallowing. It looks like it all gets distributed through the UN’s World Food Program. Look forward to bigger words here on momeld!
