studio frederik roije

A couple of designs from Frederik Roije, maker of my favorite wall shelf:

This “china cabinet” a bookshelf mad of porcelain is stunning. I love the space created between each individual piece. The way that these are fired makes each one a little unique.

This light takes the traditional lampshades and merges them together to crate a lampscape. Simply brilliant!

floating bed

For the ultra minimalist: the bed that appears to float.

With the exception of the all glass support structure, it’s not dissimilar to any other platform bed.

rita: for curvy books

You may remember storyline. The curvy version is the lovely Rita by Ron Arad.

It can be arranged along a wall in any fashion. I like being able to put a little of my touch on products that I buy. There are several different color and opacities to choose from.

milan preview: modular shelving

Michael Doyer’s Dekast modular shelving system will be on exhibit in Milan in a few days. The system be arranged to work on size or strangely shaped wall. I don’t have any images of the back of it, but I think it could be great as a room divider or screen as well.

Dekast invites its owner to change its shape and form as often as they may wish. The colorful fabric panels can be interchanged allowing you to make a composition of your own. It is made to last a lifetime without becoming dated.

your furniture is a scrapile

scrapile logoWe can’t help it. We are suckers for recycled furniture. Whether it’s beautifully hand-crafted furniture, bathtubs transformed into sofa’s, or lights made of milk, with some imagination and ingenuity just about anything can be recycled or re-used.scrapile 1
Brooklyn based Scrapile is one of many designers coming to the fore-front of recycled furniture. The two collaborators, Bart Bettencourt and Carlos Salgado, collect and re-use the discarded wood from New York’s woodworking industry.

pixel is the new plaid

20080331081354.jpg

Remember the old plaid couch? I can see this pixel couch by Cristian Zuzunaga as the plaid couch replacement. Although this design is much more thoughtful and pleasant. I really like the way that the couch becomes a composition. Great design from a Royal College of Art grad.

my your different concept

Here’s a range of sleek products from European based My Your Design Concept. Incorporating a unique design style with clean organic lines, most of the products are made from molded polyethylene to allow for few joints - giving them their trademark monolithic form.

Community is a set table and chairs designed to be combined into a monolithic piece of art when not in use.

comic furniture

This is furniture designed by Giuseppe Canevese highlighting the work of the late Italian graphic artist Guido Crepax. Crepax was hugely influential in the development of European comic art in the second half of the 20th century.
