love what you have

May 28, 2008

People who drive the same cars for forever, a photographic collection by Matteo Ferrari. (thanks: kottke) I love the idea of this.

I would love it even more if I knew for certain that these people had never owned another car. There is something to be said for using what you have until its gone. I would like to see some life cycle analysis on keeping an old car running vs. sending it to the dump to buy a “fuel efficient” car. Which is the greener choice? The newer cars do burn fuel cleaner but they also require machining and production. With the average Hybrid only allowing 6 miles more to the gallon, you have to wonder if it’s worth the life cycle cost.
