rural studio #9:the pods @ home
May 7, 2008
The Rural Studio feature begins once again this week with the Pods, a name given to the living quarters of the second year design students.
These homes are pretty rustic. The students have definitely had impact on this site and made it there own. It looks as though there is a piece of everyone who has passed through the program embedded in the site somewhere.
Here are some of the pictures that snapped:
It looks as though most of the socializing takes place out back in the bonfire pit. There was a pecan tree with nuts on the ground so I had a nice snack while waiting for the Marlon Blackwell lecture.
Notice the license plate clad washroom.
If you follow the Rural Studio, you may recognize the cardboard house. It is made up of tightly binded cardboard, newspaper and mud. I bet the thermal properties are pretty good. I wonder if the students that get this one stay a little warmer during the winter.
