Taste: Ethiopian
If you are adventurous in taste, as we are here at momeld, get on citysearch and type in Ethiopian. The aroma and flavor cannot be beat. The most similar comparison is Indian food but without the curry. Vegatarian? No worries they use a lot of greens, cabbages, and lentils. The meats are great as well. This is not for you if you can’t put down your fork, you eat with your hands. You scoop up the food with Injera, a somewhat indescribable bread. It is flat like Naan but spongy and very moist. Most places don’t have tables which increases the romance. I would write it down as a great third date place. I can’t wait to go back!
If you are feeling really gutsy ask for Ethiopian Coffee. (we are not responsible for any side effects!)

modern coat rack
I like it when things surprise me, and this surprised me. Of course, it just so happens that I’ve been looking for a nice, modern coat rack. And what a great idea: a coat rack that isn’t a rack at all.

tattoo house
Their family was growing and the budget was tight, and so their addition, Tattoo House, designed by Andrew Maynard is a simple box turned into a nicely detailed living space. The solution is open space in which every detail is designed to function with a maximum return. For instance, the bench in the kitchen becomes a part of the stair.
The UV-stable stickers of trees aren’t just mere decoration; they function as live trees. They provide beautiful patterns on the inside and provide relief from solar gain through such a large window wall. The shadows and colors cast by the trees continually change through the day, providing the space an ephemeral quality.

perceptive pixel
This 3min video has been around about a year now, but I just came across it. This technology is amazing and I can’t wait till it replaces the standard mouse and keypad. Think iPhone…only much, much bigger!

Follow up: Master Disaster Architecture Duel

Last night, young New York architects from FXFowle and Konyk, dueled in the 4th Annual model-building competition. This year, the participants were given two hours to sketch and construct a model of an eco-friendly wildlife center in Alaska. Usually, the winner is announced at the end of the competition, but this year voting is open online for roughly one week.
Starting tomorrow you can cast your vote here: http://www.lvhrd.org/
Watch a short 3min video on the event here.

no ordinary wall art
Wall art can come in many different shapes and sizes. And it has never been more true than with designers Max and Linda Geiser, whose simple, varied wall applications are enough to add flair to any room.
And there’s more here.
I’m particularly fond of the circles; mostly because my apt could use something besides a straight line.

Food as Art
We have all heard it before . . . a meal appearance is just as important as its taste. There is something about well designed food that just tastes better. The people of food-designing have a interesting concept of engaging food and social activity. The approach to food should always involve both the cooking and preparation of it. Foods can easily take on ergonomic, functional, communicative, and interactive properties.

NYC event: the architectural league presents:
Polshek Partnership Architects discuss their current work. It looks like the focus will be on their Institutional work.
Momeld always enjoys lectures @ the league. They are somewhat informal which is always nice after a days work and the discussions are usually insightful. Come with questions!

wine wool
There are all sorts of cool wine totes popping up these days. This one promises to be ecofriendly as it is 100% wool. I find its purse like nature a little different from the rest. If only my wallet could fit in the wine bottle so I could optimize its use.
Need a host/ hostess gift? The tipsy wine bag could be your answer.
